Home Education...
Most Frequently Asked Questions

Q ~ Why are you home schooling?
A ~ There are as many reasons to home educate children as there are families! The most common ones are: to take advantage of individual instruction to meet each child's specific needs; encouraging the child to learn how to learn; having quality time to nurture and train your child; wanting God to be an integral part of the child's education...just to name a few!

Q ~ Is that legal?
A ~ YES! The law in Ontario requires "satisfactory instruction" for your children. For specific information check out the Home School Legal Defence Association at www.hsldacanada.org .

Q ~ Do you need to be a qualified teacher?
A ~ NO! But you will likely want to become educated yourself about various curricula, philosophies and programs that are available to you. There are many books and articles written on how to educate your children according to their learning styles and at different stages in their educational experience. Use the internet to find answers to your questions. The biggest thing you will need is enthusiasm for learning!

Q ~ What about socialization?
A ~ There are many ways to "socialize" a child. One of the huge benefits of home education is that children learn to interact with ALL age levels, not just their same-age peers. There are many opportunities for socialization outside the school setting including sports, churches or home school co-operatives.
